I first saw Whitney on her online TV show (The Whitney & Wyatt Show) a few months ago and thought she was amazing! She was talking about marketing and PR - (two of my favorite things) and can even remember telling a friend - we should meet her!! Then like magic, she and her fabulous film crew were covering an event that I too was photographing. (see, magic!) We chatted for a bit, exchanged cards and met the following week for coffee. She is SO fun, full of energy and incredibly passionate about her work!

Since then we’ve become great friends and have had the wonderful opportunity to photograph her on two of her projects. (this is how behind I am at blogging) but would love to share some of the photos with you.

These first photos are from the BizJam event (put on of course by the fabulous people of Biznik) - Whitney spoke about high impact, low cost marketing - how to get the attention of the press and of course your potential clients! We were all taking notes - great advice and a great reason to hire Whitney to help you come up with a plan to increase your business! (HERE is a link to her site. )

A couple of weeks ago (or was it months… time goes by so fast - I can’t remember!) Folk life was here at the Seattle Center. Whitney and her wonderful cameraman Brett came down to interview Ravin Wolf a fabulous Ellensburg based band who was here performing.

Whitney is always doing fun interviews and introducing artists/performers/business people to the community.

See, now you can see how fabulous Whitney is! If you want to grow your business, or start a new business but aren’t sure where to start - you should hire Whitney Keyes, she is a fabulous consultant!!

Today is the day ~ (June 4th) that the neighborhood of Wallingford hosts the first Wednesday ArtWalk! So head on over to the Wallingford area (45th & Wallingford is a good place to start) there will be farmers markets, and all cafe’s, shops, and bars will be open with local artists featured in each location. I also hear that Trophy Cupcake has a Wednesday only option of a blueberry cupcake with fresh blueberries from the farmers market!! YUM!!!

Yours truly will be featured at Fuel Coffee 1705 N. 45th St ~ (right by the BITCH store, everyone seems to know that one). A few of my portrait images will be hanging there this month.

So, if you don’t get a chance to stop by tonight (6-9pm) and eat some of the goodies I’m bringing and you still want to see the work - you can either stop by at some point in the month of June, or check back at this blog site and photos will be posted!

Hope to see you soon!

Barbie

It is also Nicole Beraldi’s Birthday - so don’t forget to wish her a happy day!! =)

A few months ago, I met two wonderful gals (at Girl Power Hour of course) who have changed the gift giving world!! Juliana Wong & Heather Kleiner the owners of a fabulous company called Marrylicious, the company has focused mainly on wedding day gifts but the gift can be given to anyone (client or friend) and without a doubt they will appreciate it!!

The packaging is what first caught my eye - the boxes are gorgeous and can be used again and again… but wait until you see what is inside!! It is a huge hit and can be a life savor on a wedding day. =) Check out their website by clicking HERE.

Oh, and a couple of weeks ago, Heather & I got together to do a little photo-shoot of their packaging, here are a few of the shots. Enjoy!

Holga’s view of Ketchikan May 8, 2008

Filed under: Advertising, Personal, Photography, Travel — Barbie Hull @ 5:35 pm

Hello!! So, you may know that last week I went back home to Ketchikan Alaska for one of my best friend’s weddings. (SO FUN!) There are SO many photos to post, so I’m going to break them up. This first one is through the lens of my trusty Holga. If you aren’t familiar with this amazing type of camera there is a photo of it too! It is made of plastic, and there are no controls for focus, exposure or anything really - it actually has to be taped together and pieces of plastic strategically placed to keep the film from falling out. (I LOVE it!!) Everything that comes out of this little piece of magical plastic is perfect! Check out these first few shots!

This is a fun overlapped image (three actually) of my favorite local bar The Sourdough & my favorite neighbor/ bar owner Larry Kubley!  (if you follow that link, you’ll see its a silly video from someone filming the bar!! It shows the walls are filled with fun photos of shipwrecks & fish kind of funny!!)

(Sometimes when the Holga owner forgets to forward the film you get overlapped images - hee hee)

I had actually never been to the Potlatch (another local bar) until this trip - and again - didn’t forward the film… Fun isn’t it?!?

This is part of a Totem Pole from Saxman - our Tlingit Village South of town.

(again if you look closely, you can see three different images)

I LOVE how damaged the Holga film looks - these are two more Totems, this time from Totem Bite (north of town)

Hope you’ve enjoyed this fun little Holga viewing…. stay tuned for color images from my favorite Nikon D3!

My trusty Holga!  =)  You should get one too!

Celebrate the Child Within April 15, 2008

Saturday was an exciting day - I donated a few hours to photograph a wonderful charity auction over on Mercer Island. The event was put together by the wonderful members of Soroptimist and their goal was to raise 40k to build a new children’s playground at the Catherine Booth House. The Catherine Booth house is a confidential emergency shelter for women & children escaping domestic violence.

It was a great experience witnessing first hand all of the people in the community who donated their sunny Saturday afternoon to help such a fabulous cause!

Here are a few photos from the afternoon -

The event was at the Mercer Island Community Center

The event was held at the Mercer Island Community Center

The girls from a local drill team donated their time to help set up and to sell raffle tickets!

There were great places throughout the afternoon where you could donate.

Holly & Kimber were in charge of this particular event.

If you are interested in donating time or money to this group, please contact the Club President, Holly.

Girl Power Hour! March 5, 2008

Filed under: Advertising, Events, Photography — Barbie Hull @ 2:28 am

The third Thursday of each month (mark your calendars) there is a fabulous networking event ~ Girl Power Hour ~ started by Darnell & Samantha it has continued to grow and become one of the most fun (and popular) events in Seattle!

Last month we were at TWIST in Belltown. What a great place! Good food, great service & a supercool disco pig at the bar! There was a great turnout - over 150 women came to the party, which means Girl Power Hour was able to donate over 150 pairs of new or lightly used shoes to Soles for Souls. Not only are we there to network, share ideas, make new friends but also to help out different charities each month.

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the next big night out - March 20th (at the fancy W Hotel!) there is limited space, so go online and RSVP quickly! HERE is a link.

Here are some photos from the February party. =)

Lunar Eclipse!! February 21, 2008

Filed under: Advertising, Personal, Photography, nature — Barbie Hull @ 1:27 pm

I didn’t even know we were going to have one!! We were channel surfing last night and saw the news… which reminded Ryan - oh yeah! 7pm there will be a lunar eclipse… what time is it now?!? 6:57?? Lets get outside! So dangling off of our 3rd story balcony we could just barely see the super cool reddish moon! It was so neat! After coming inside found three messages on the phone “Look outside, quick - take a picture of the moon!” So here it is - (gotta love my new camera - shooting 6400 iso…. just to see how it looks…. fabulous!!)

Savor Seattle! February 20, 2008

So - whether you are from out of town or a local here in Seattle - Pikes Place is a fun place to spend the day! Angela Shen (owner/mastermind of Savor Seattle) thought so too, so she created a super fabulous tour that lasts about two hours and takes you to a few of the hot spots in our favorite market.

On Sunday morning Brooke & I joined the group for some tasty treats and learned so many fun facts…. here are just a few of the many many photos taken that morning. ~ Enjoy!0010hull021708.jpg

0024hull021708.jpg

We started our tour at Seattle’s Best on 1st & Pike - already off to a fabulous start!! mmmm!

0034hull021708.jpg0041hull021708.jpg

The big group ~ we had people from all over the country with us - so fun! Angela Dewitt commonly referred to as Angela #2 was our guide.

0074hull021708.jpg0103hull021708.jpg

At Market Spice we got to taste some fabulous spices and where to use them. =)

0110hull021708.jpg

0116hull021708.jpg

They have the most creative names for their tea!!

0131hull021708.jpg

Of course we had to visit our famous flying fish boys!! They are so funny and lets us taste some of the greatest smoked fish (from Alaska of course!)

0153hull021708.jpg

0165hull021708.jpg0185hull021708.jpg

0186hull021708.jpgDid you know the Pig’s name is Rachel?? And she really is a piggy bank?? People put money in her all the time! (you’ll have to go on the tour to find out what the money is used for - I was busy taking photos and not paying attention… hee hee)

0190hull021708.jpg

Following our fearless leader!

0193hull021708.jpg

If you are ever in the market and see a cute gal with a pink umbrella - there is a good chance her name is Angela and she is leading a Savor Tour. =)

0207hull021708.jpg

This was put up for all of the Japanese people who were forced out of the market so long ago… sad.

0228hull021708.jpg

0324hull021708.jpg

A long long time ago (thats my language for I wasn’t listening again and you’ll have to go on the tour to find out) the market floor was made of wood - then to raise money to pay for a new floor you could buy a square for $35 and put anything you wanted on it… some people were creative and some people put their names. =)

0344hull021708.jpg

This was us eating some life altering cheese - at Beecher’s - YUM!!

0358hull021708.jpg

And of course we ended the morning with a sweet glass of chardonay at the Tasting Room. Delicious!

0431hull021708.jpg

0445hull021708.jpg

0458hull021708.jpg

We finished up around noon and had the rest of this sunny sunny day to spend at the market. =) Brooke and I spent another two hours going back to all of the places we had just visited to buy full sized portions of all the food we had sampled because it was too good to pass up. (The Mac & Cheese from Beechers really is the best in the world!!)

Being on the Savor tour we were able to get 10-15% off all of our purchases - so cool!

Check out Angela’s website - HERE

She also gives a discount for wedding parties! So for all of you planning a Seattle wedding and have guests coming in from far far away - this would be a great adventure for them!

I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did. =)
