Just when you think an already wonderful event couldn’t get any better…. it does! Samantha Lawton & Darnell Sue - the creators of Girl Power Hour have continued to amaze us ladies of Seattle. They first started GPH just a few short months ago, a networking hour where girls get together, they network - gossip - win prizes - try fabulous new drinks and of course learn about a new business or in this months case that it is Good to be Green!

Last night (April 17th) was the Girl Goes Green version of GPH - the party was at Sole Repair in Capitol Hill…. WOW!! What an amazing space. (I want it!!!! It would be THE perfect studio!) They not only had MANY featured green businesses such as: Bamboo Beats (seattle’s first green DJ), Interra, Olivine, A Fresh squeeze, Dry Soda and so the entire list HERE,

but they also (I’m SO impressed) had TWO film crews, TWO photographers, & so many models featured in their sustainable clothing fashion show!!

Um… How COOL! Okay -enough chit chat, here are a few of the shots from last nights extravaganza ~ Enjoy!

There were tips on how to live a greener life displayed throughout the evening.

The GORGEOUS flowers were donated by Melissa Feveyear of Terra Bella Flowers

Our friends from Bamboo Beats - Seattle’s first green DJ

Samantha Lawton & Darnell Sue - creators of GPH

The first 50 lucky gals get one of these little pink tokens to exchange for a swag bag at the end of the evening. This month it was filled with all sorts of goodies!!

The doors opened at 6:30 on the dot and there was a line wrapped around the block… this is what it looked like 10 minutes into the party!!

GPH guests - Wendi from Ethereal Events, Barbara LMP, & Lisa Chambers from Chambers & Co.

A sustainable fashion show started about an hour into the party and featured sustainable clothing from Kimmi Design & Olivine Boutique.

There was an Art Institute Student photographing the event as well! YAY AIS!

Whitney Keyes was interviewing many of the ladies throughout the night.

Girl Power Hour! March 5, 2008

Filed under: Advertising, Events, Photography — Barbie Hull @ 2:28 am

The third Thursday of each month (mark your calendars) there is a fabulous networking event ~ Girl Power Hour ~ started by Darnell & Samantha it has continued to grow and become one of the most fun (and popular) events in Seattle!

Last month we were at TWIST in Belltown. What a great place! Good food, great service & a supercool disco pig at the bar! There was a great turnout - over 150 women came to the party, which means Girl Power Hour was able to donate over 150 pairs of new or lightly used shoes to Soles for Souls. Not only are we there to network, share ideas, make new friends but also to help out different charities each month.

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the next big night out - March 20th (at the fancy W Hotel!) there is limited space, so go online and RSVP quickly! HERE is a link.

Here are some photos from the February party. =)

Savor Seattle! February 20, 2008

So - whether you are from out of town or a local here in Seattle - Pikes Place is a fun place to spend the day! Angela Shen (owner/mastermind of Savor Seattle) thought so too, so she created a super fabulous tour that lasts about two hours and takes you to a few of the hot spots in our favorite market.

On Sunday morning Brooke & I joined the group for some tasty treats and learned so many fun facts…. here are just a few of the many many photos taken that morning. ~ Enjoy!0010hull021708.jpg

0024hull021708.jpg

We started our tour at Seattle’s Best on 1st & Pike - already off to a fabulous start!! mmmm!

0034hull021708.jpg0041hull021708.jpg

The big group ~ we had people from all over the country with us - so fun! Angela Dewitt commonly referred to as Angela #2 was our guide.

0074hull021708.jpg0103hull021708.jpg

At Market Spice we got to taste some fabulous spices and where to use them. =)

They have the most creative names for their tea!!

0131hull021708.jpg

Of course we had to visit our famous flying fish boys!! They are so funny and lets us taste some of the greatest smoked fish (from Alaska of course!)

0165hull021708.jpg0185hull021708.jpg

0186hull021708.jpgDid you know the Pig’s name is Rachel?? And she really is a piggy bank?? People put money in her all the time! (you’ll have to go on the tour to find out what the money is used for - I was busy taking photos and not paying attention… hee hee)

Following our fearless leader!

0193hull021708.jpg

If you are ever in the market and see a cute gal with a pink umbrella - there is a good chance her name is Angela and she is leading a Savor Tour. =)

This was put up for all of the Japanese people who were forced out of the market so long ago… sad.

0228hull021708.jpg

Did you know the eggplant is in the berry family?? (so true!) and that there are girl & boy eggplants?!?!

0324hull021708.jpg

A long long time ago (thats my language for I wasn’t listening again and you’ll have to go on the tour to find out) the market floor was made of wood - then to raise money to pay for a new floor you could buy a square for $35 and put anything you wanted on it… some people were creative and some people put their names. =)

0344hull021708.jpg

This was us eating some life altering cheese - at Beecher’s - YUM!!

0358hull021708.jpg

0372hull021708.jpg

0399hull021708.jpg

We learned the TRUTH about the original Starbucks location. =)

0423hull021708.jpg

And of course we ended the morning with a sweet glass of chardonay at the Tasting Room. Delicious!

0431hull021708.jpg

0445hull021708.jpg

0458hull021708.jpg

We finished up around noon and had the rest of this sunny sunny day to spend at the market. =) Brooke and I spent another two hours going back to all of the places we had just visited to buy full sized portions of all the food we had sampled because it was too good to pass up. (The Mac & Cheese from Beechers really is the best in the world!!)

Being on the Savor tour we were able to get 10-15% off all of our purchases - so cool!

Check out Angela’s website - HERE

She also gives a discount for wedding parties! So for all of you planning a Seattle wedding and have guests coming in from far far away - this would be a great adventure for them!

I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did. =)

Partying for a Cause! January 28, 2008

Filed under: Advertising, Events, Photography — Barbie Hull @ 8:22 pm

Hello all!!

Get out your calendars and mark down Saturday February 2nd - 8pm at The Little Red Studio (Harrison & Dexter)

It is the place to be this coming weekend and it is for a good cause!

(a little background)

Lindsey & Tracy (photo below) took a trip to Peru with their friends from Crooked Trails - they fell in love with this little village and all of the people in it. The people in the town are working hard to raise money to build a school -most kids have to walk 5 miles to school each day and end up dropping out around 6th grade to help the family by working. When Tracy & Lindsey found out they only needed to raise $25k to fund the entire building - they thought, “We can do that!” And then the idea for the Venetian Masked Carnival Ball was born.

They are bringing Venice’s Carnival to Seattle.  It will be a night of fun, flirtation and frivolity — all for a good cause.  Local Bossa Nova Band, Passarim, will start off the night. KEXP DJ Darek Mazzone will spin World Pop tunes throughout the night. Geoffrey Castle will amaze you with his electric violin.  Performers from Pure Cirkus will entertain you throughout the night with their trapeze acts, belly dancing, stilt walking and acrobatics.  Beautiful Miss Indigo Blue will dazzle you with her Burlesque moves. There’s a surprise and delight for the senses around every corner.  Ticket price includes: 2 free drink tickets, Italian heavy appetizers, a dessert bar including cupcakes from Cupcake Royale, all-night entertainment and drink specials from SKYY Vodka, Kestrel Winery, Peroni Italian Beer and Dry Soda.

Girl Power Hour January 21, 2008

Girl Power Hour created by Darnell Sue & Samantha Lawton (two super fabulous gals)… It is hard to explain - technically its a networking group but realistically it is fun filled evening of drinks, prizes and mingling. So fun! Check out their website - www.girlpowerhour.com - you can learn all about the charities, artists, and fabulous women they support. On January 17th the event was hosted by Val at Solo - a super cute little bar in Queen Anne that I will definately be visiting again soon. =)

Trophy has the best cupcakes in all the land! 047hull011708-copy.jpg052hull011708-copy.jpgEach party has a different non-profit charity in which you can donate to. This particular one is called Women of Purpose ~ the necklaces were for sale at a very reasonable price $35-$50 and everything goes towards helping to stop exploitation and trafficking of women & girls. Here is a link to their site. 054hull011708-copy.jpg075hull011708-copy.jpgRebecca Agiewich is a hilarious writer (she read a passage from her book at the event) who went through a rough breakup and wrote an insanely funny book called the Breakup Babe on her take of the entire event. Good read! Here is a link to her blog (where she got started!)
