On May 21st of this year (yes I am THAT behind in my blogging!) Rachael Brandt (the newest event planner with the Jewish Federation) hosted a Casino Night to raise money for the children of Israel – at the fabulous Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle the evening was a great success!!  There were tables of fun games like craps, blackjack, roulette and a Texas Hold’em tourny – the prizes were great!  A laptop, 2 nights at a vegas casino/hotel wine tasting – not to mention Chocolopolis gave a GREAT lesson on chocolate (yummmmm) where it comes from and how it is made – with tastings (double yummmm) and Vida Spa was there with chairs set up for hand massage and neck massage…. with all of this fabulousness it was hard to decide where to spend my time!  OH YEAH!  Not to mention the DELICIOUS spread of food – Yummmmm!  (I’m really getting hungry now).

So the evening was a huge success and hopefully they do it again next year – I know I’d love to go!  Here is a collage of photos from the evening:

Girl Power Hour is an event you hear me talk about often, this past Thursday was the latest event and it was one to remember!~  Co-Creators Samantha Lawton & Darnell Sue have really created a phenomenal thing, much more than just an event.   It has grown from just a few ladies getting together to a few hundred lady business owners coming together to learn from each other to team up with one another to break the boundries of business – not a small feat!

On Thursday 4.16.09 there was a big announcement – Samantha Lawton has re-connected with her high school sweetheart and will be moving to Madagascar to explore the world and get married!  The whole story was …. well, it covered all the emotions!!   It was happy (she got engaged!) hilarious (thanks to her meddling dental hygenist mid-western mother!) tearful (she will be leaving us) and exciting (she is getting everything she wants in life and we are more than happy for her!) so overall a very entertaining story – which leads us to the best part, she will be creating a blog – The-adventures-in-Sam (.blogspot.com) and if she writes anything like she talks we’ll all be at the edge of our seats waiting for more!!

Okay… now down to the fun stuff – the photos!  Here are a few images from the evening:

The sponsors were fabulous as always – Propel, Pearl Vodka & Revelry Wine (delicious!)

Here is Darnell & Sam in front of Alchemy Collections – a GREAT space for events!! (not to mention great furniture for sale!)

One of the great presenters of GPH was Jill Kelto – the Recessionista!  She saw this recession coming, started planning early & has TONS of great advice for you & your family!  Read about it in her book “Don’t Get Caught With Your Skirt Down” and also in her blog, see HERE

A new friend and great reporter Marina Rockinger from KOMO 1000 decided to come join the festivities and word on the street is she will be airing and interview with Sam & Darnell this week!  So tune in!

I thought this was a great idea!!  Bring something from your closet or jewelry box that you bought, thought you’d love and didn’t end up using or wearing – put it on display for everyone to see and then of course go home with a little something new!

The door prizes were fabulous as always – tickets to the D-List Party (won by Amanda Howse) and tickets to the Crooked Trails Venetian Masquarade Ball (won by ME!!)

Twenty amazing years ago, Lisa saw a cute boy at a party – to get his attention she told him a bad joke and he laughed.  That was the moment she knew – Steve was the man for her.  Being so young when they were married they didn’t have the big white wedding Lisa dreamed of – while they raised their three girls they often talked of “when we have our wedding” and talked about all the details of how they wanted to plan the party.

A few months back Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer, she battled it with everything she had – but was given the stage 4 diagnosis… the cancer had spread.  Lisa has some amazing support, her loving family & her long time friends from work – they found out about Brides Against Breast Cancer & The Making Memories Foundation and told them Lisa’s story.    It took only three weeks to put everything together & on Valentines day 2009 – that was the day Lisa & Steve had their dream wedding!

When the girls & I at Get Hitched Give Hope heard about Lisa & Steve we knew we had to help!  (BABC & MMF are the places we donate the money raised from our October Soiree)  So Eliza & I  grabbed our cameras and headed over to Port Orchard to photograph this amazing event.

Lisa, Steve & the girls were more than welcoming!  We felt like family by the end of the day!

Brides Against Breast Cancer is an amazing organization – they collect gowns that are new & lightly used from girls, designers and big chains all over the country and hold gown sales.  So the ladies getting married can get a great deal on their dress and help grant wishes!!  Get Hitched Give Hope along with many other charities work together to raise money for these fabulous folks!!    Check out their site to learn more:  http://bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/

In February of this year Brenda and the fabulous friends in Washington State had a special viewing for a special family – Lisa & her three daughters came to pick out a dress for Lisa’s wedding – they arrived at the Bellevue Hilton in a Limo & were greeted with pink ribbon cupcakes, a cart filled with gifts from Macy’s & of course all of the fabulous volunteers at The Making Memories Foundation.  You see – Lisa & her family are wish recipients!

Eliza Truitt & I were able to go out and photograph the day – ere are a few photos from the day of trying on dresses, fabulous!!

Have you ever gone to a bar and didn’t know what to order so you either panic (like me) and order whatever the other person has ordered or go with the staple of vodka and soda (or cran)?   Well those days are over!!  Jeffrey Shilling of Epic Odyssey has the most brilliant idea & its called Passport 2 Cocktails – you’ll have to go to the website to get all the fun details but here is the basic overview.

Each month the venue will change (introducing you to fabulous new places).

Each month the bartender will teach you about a different type of alcohol or liqueur and you’ll get to try out a couple of new drinks. BRILLIANT!

Such a great idea!!  I am planning to go to as many as possible,   ehem… to take pictures of course!  Hope to see you there!

Here are a few photos from the last great event at Rob Roy (one of Belltown’s greatest previously the Viceroy).

Enjoy!

Thanks to Monir Zandghoreishi this past Friday night (February 13th) was the night of Project Red Dress – it was AMAZING!  So many talented student designers from different fashion schools came together at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel (downtown Seattle) to compete in a fashion show to create awareness of heart disease in both men and women.  There were some truly amazing speakers, judges and always the fabulous guests!!

Here are some shots of the evening, there were too many to narrow it down, so I made them little thumbnails so you can see all the fun of the evening!! (by just clicking on the image you want to see!)

Gene Juarez technicians volunteered to do the hair & makeup (GORGEOUS!)  The pre-party was at the COOLEST place in Seattle to buy clutches, bags, purses – all the fabulous things a gal needs – CLUTCH!   The hostesses for the evening were my VERY favorite girls from the LADIES ROOMBrooke & Monti!!  Oh – and you’ll love this one, one of the fabulous judges was Nick Verreos from PROJECT RUNWAY!!  whoohoo!!

I hope you love the photos – because I had a GREAT time!!

On our beautiful -13 degree new years day in Anchorage we headed over to the Zipkin’s house to photograph Gary, Barbara, Michael, Sarah & Dan – they were such good sports too!  I know they would’ve rather been watching movies on the couch, but we had SO much fun! (what else do you expect!?)  We were playing with the holga, the lensbaby, the fisheye, we were jumping, kissing people and of course laughing so hard our stomachs hurt!!

Here are a couple of my favorite shots – Enjoy!!

You may recognize Barbara’s beautiful face from a previous posting – she was the high bidder on my photography package at the Get Hitched Give Hope event.  Thank you Barbara!!  You are a wish granter!! (you deserve a wand for sure!)

Tuesday was an exciting day – in my mailbox was the latest edition of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, a nice little note and a big flag on page 46….. check it out!

We super love Dixie, Laura & all the folks from Seattle Metropolitan Magazine for the amazing write up in the magazine, the full page of photos (taken by Jeff LaPlante) and of course all of their support from Seattle Metropolitan Bride & Groom in our adventures!  You will always be the favorite!!!

On November 1st Excel Coatings rallied up about 20 volunteers to paint the YWCA Seattle.  Headed up by Excel’s owner Ryan Barr & project manager David Koewler they teamed up with The Master Builders Association and we all painted 3 rooms at the Seattle location of the YWCA.  People were SO generous with their time – driving in from all parts of the city & even as far as the Chehalis area!!  (THANK YOU!!)

If you are interested in finding out more about the YWCA and all they offer click HERE.

It is so nice that even in an economic down time there are people who can still look at the bigger picture and see that there are people much less fortunate than us and with very little effort we can brighten their day!!

It was a lot of fun getting together with people and painting the rooms – here is a collage of our Saturday morning:

Here is an email sent out by the YWCA -

Thank  you Excel Coatings and all the volunteers who helped with Painting a Better Tomorrow!

Wow!  What a fantastic job Excel Coatings employees, colleagues, friends, and family did on November 1st for Master Builders Association’s Painting a Better Tomorrow.  You made three of our program spaces look like new with a fresh and clean coat of paint.  Your hard work and generosity transformed the YWCA and our clients, employees, donors, and volunteers benefit from your efforts.  We can’t thank all of you enough for your dedication in giving back to the community and improving the quality of life for women and their families.

From all of us at YWCA Opportunity Place, we thank you!
