The Tao of I Do
Fall 2009 Wedding Guide
A wise man once said: All you need is love. With a ballooning guest list, an overly involved MIL, and a laissez-faire groom, you respectfully disagree.
Take a deep breath. Love, love, love. It’s easy with these simple principles.
Find a Guru
With eleven years of bridal industry know-how, Gown Diva Consulting’s Liz Navarro counsels you on the right dress shape for your body; where to find designers in your price range and style; and helps with ordering, alterations, accessories, and more.
Be Here Now
Make playfulness the day’s theme by hosting your ceremony or reception among treetops at TreeHouse Point. A renovated church-turned-nonprofit arts center, The Fremont Abbey uses all proceeds from events to fund community arts outreach.
Face the Day
Get down to basics with a brow design and signature facial that’ll make you glow from Katrina Rising at Cake. Then keep shine at bay while preserving makeup with luxurious Tatcha Aburatorigami blotting papers.
Exhibit Outer Piece
Incorporating satin ribbons, shell, horn, and leather on gold-plated backings, Monsieur Cocarde’s (monsieur.cocarde@gmail.com) custom brooches, boutonnieres, shoe accessories, and pendants make special keepsakes for your wedding party.
Live in the Moment
Don’t miss a second of your big day with a DVD by Aaron Horton Productions and Barbie Hull Photography’s scenic and specialized snapshots.
Commune with Nature
Patti Bosket’s woodsy and wonderful floral creations cater to the bride’s personal style. The designer also offers ecofriendly seasonal foliage and flowers. And Dahlia Press’s 100 percent cotton, tree-free paper and 100-year-old press lovingly craft elegant invitations.
The Art of Giving
Register at countless stores and sites and get suggestions from experts and price comparisons at Seattle-based Wishpot.com. Then surprise guests with a wedding cake that resembles a work of art from Chocolaz Artisan Cakes.
Appreciate the Little Things
Custom engagement rings and wedding bands from T. Anthony Sholdt use the finest metals and precious stones to commemorate the spirit of your ceremony and unique affection.
Prepare to kiss single life goodbye.
That was Zen; this is Tao.
So – I’m a huge nerd. (not that you didn’t know). But I live, work, play, dream photography – that is really my only hobby. At least I used to have shopping & parties to serve as inspiration – it seems there is no time for that these days. BUT now that I’m a homeowner… or at least own a huge mortgage I figured its time to get crafty! (don’t worry friends, I won’t be crotcheting you any “scarves” or making you any glass “art” this year!) I’m on to GARDENING!!!
Lucinda O’Halloran of Spirit Garden Design came over last week to help me out – she checked out the soil, commented on sun vs shade asked about design and overall goals then we came up with a plan… which you will get to see EVERY step. (because I’m going to photo-document the whole thing! NERD!)
The first step – buying tools. FUN!

The 2nd step – OUT with the old – (and re-locating them to a new garden that will give them lots of room to grow)

NEXT – the compost, get some good dirt & good bugs going so the new plants have a good home… and IN WITH THE NEW!! I LOVE our new tall grass look. I wish it were full grown and filled in NOW! (but apparently we have to wait until next spring..)

The next project…. a ground cover. I would LOVE the corsican mint – but word on the street is its finicky. So we’ll see. It might have to wait for a while. =) hee hee The next thing you know – I’ll be gardening on tv with Cisco! (Lucinda is WAY cooler!)
When meeting new people, they often ask, “Why did you get into photography?” – and I have to say, “Because I love it!” As my business grows (thanks to you!) I get busier and busier – working on the computer, editing, re-touching, running errands – things that business owners do. (or eventually have people to do it – right?) All this busy work can easily make you forget the reason you started doing whatever it is that you do – Put the brakes on!! Stop!! This is how you get burned out – you always have to grow and change with the times but don’t forget why you do what you do. You work hard to enjoy life – so don’t forget to have some fun. It all passes by too quickly.
SO a good friend & fabulous photographer Eliza Truitt is always an inspiration. – She has a love for great tote bags and has started a blog about it, see HERE and of course she has a love for photography and is always working on new fun projects, I just love her traditional style with a modern twist that is so uniquely her. Recently E and I were working on a wedding and decided that we would add a new project into our “jobs” to give ourselves an assignment at each shoot, while we have a break or there isn’t anything exciting happening for us to be “working” on – we would take a look around and photograph what we see. I love it. It is like a breath of fresh air.
Here come the photos! At a recent shoot up in Volunteer Park – while my subject was running to the car, I took a few moments to look around and this is what I saw.

So Collages.net – my favorite way to share photos with clients & friends – started a blog! On their blog they feature different jobs that have been uploaded on their site – they pick favorites from all the different states and it is a fun way to see what people are up to. On Friday February 7th – they featured yours truly! I guess they could tell how much I LOVE blogging!! Whooohoo!!!
HERE is a link to the interview and of course below is a screenshot from the blast that went out.
Enjoy!!

Nic & Trina Marsing are expecting their first little girl this coming April – I have known Thrina since we were 5 & 6 years old. Her family lived just behind ours in Craig Alaska. As long as I can remember – Thrina has LOVED babies – she is going to be the BEST Mom so kind, so sweet & so patient! The day we took photos was the firist time meeting Nic, but he was so great – playing along with all of our ideas and having fun coming up with some too and they were both up for going outside in the -22 weather! I can’t wait to meet little Ember…. April 6th – mark your calendars!!
Here are a couple of photos from our shoot – hope you like them!!

I was lucky enough to spend the new year in Anchorage with my silly parents (Hi guys!!) they were nice enough to drive me all over town stopping in crazy places so I could jump out and take photos. One day – my Mom was in charge of the Holga and we were outside in -22 degree temps!! No way right?!
We are still waiting for the Holga images to be developed (next week sometime), but for now here are a few of my favorites from the holiday in AK.

The moon was so great while I was there and if you look closely to the left of the image – you can see Mars!!

I love the fog! This is normally a great lookout point to see the city of Anchorage, but this night you can barely see the mountains!

This is a fun sculpture outside of the Library I could not believe the amazing icicles that formed there!!

The moose – they’re everywhere!!

This year Alaska is celebrating its 50th year as a state – and so they had an amazing ice sculpture in the city park-which they turned into an ice skating rink!

Oh gee… even the sculptures can see Russia from their back yard!!

This was the sunset right behind the airport about 4pm on January 1st – BEAUTIFUL!!!!
In August this year two fabulous people (Erica & Adam) tied the knot down in Woodland at the Lewis River Golf Course (near Portland). It was too much fun – since Erica & I went to 7th grade together I knew a lot of the people at the wedding – making work WAY too much fun!!
Every detail at the wedding was GORGEOUS! Erica had a lot of great help with the planning – the day couldn’t have gone more perfectly!
I had a hard time narrowing down any of the pictures – so you get to see a lot of how the day went - ENJOY!!

Tuesday was an exciting day – in my mailbox was the latest edition of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, a nice little note and a big flag on page 46….. check it out!
We super love Dixie, Laura & all the folks from Seattle Metropolitan Magazine for the amazing write up in the magazine, the full page of photos (taken by Jeff LaPlante) and of course all of their support from Seattle Metropolitan Bride & Groom in our adventures! You will always be the favorite!!!
Baby Michael is now six months old & is cuter than ever!! You’ve been so lucky to see his newborn photos, his three month photos and soon you’ll get to see 9 months too! Since we were near halloween, we wanted to put him in a pumpkin – it turns out to be much harder than you’d think. (who wants to sit in a slimy pumkin?? eeew!)
Here are a few of my favorites ~ (SO CUTE!)
